My passion for fine jewelry and gemstones began at a young age. My Mom likes to joke that I began my career in the industry as a 2-year-old jewel thief trying to pick diamonds out of her friends’ engagement rings.
I graduated in 2012 from the University of Vermont with my B.A. in Art History. While an undergraduate, I also took distance education classes through the Gemological Institute of America in order to obtain my Graduate Gemologist Certification (GG). After graduation, I moved to NYC and finished my GG while simultaneously working in the jewelry industry. In 2014, I completed New York University's Appraisal Studies Program in Fine and Decorative Arts, with a focus on fine jewelry. I have continued my education through the New York Jewelry Design Institute, where I’ve completed classes in jewelry design and the business of jewelry design.
Currently, I am a jewelry specialist at Phillips Auctioneers in New York City. Prior to joining Phillips, I worked at Harry Winston as a jewelry specialist and gemologist in Quality Control.
In addition to Annie James, I design and produce custom engagement rings and other jewelry for private clients. I also offer my clients jewelry appraisal services for both new and existing pieces.
In my spare time, I serve as treasurer for CancerCare’s Young Professionals Committee. The committee aims to raise funds and awareness for the organization.
