Anne’s passion for fine jewelry and gemstones began at a young age. Her Mom likes to joke that she began her career in the industry as a two-year-old jewel thief trying to pick diamonds out of her friends’ engagement rings.
She graduated in 2012 from the University of Vermont with her B.A. in Art History. While an undergraduate, Anne also took distance education classes through the Gemological Institute of America in order to obtain her Graduate Gemologist Certification (GG). After graduation, she moved to NYC and finished her GG while simultaneously working in the jewelry industry. In 2014, Anne completed New York University's Appraisal Studies Program in Fine and Decorative Arts, with a focus on fine jewelry. She continued her education through the New York Jewelry Design Institute, where she completed classes in jewelry design and the business of jewelry design.
Currently, Anne is a jewelry specialist at Phillips Auctioneers in New York City. Prior to joining Phillips, she worked at Harry Winston as a jewelry specialist and gemologist in Quality Control.
After her 2016 diagnosis and subsequent treatment for thyroid cancer, Anne used her love of jewelry and design as a platform to promote awareness for the disease. Annie James partnered with CancerCare, donating 20% of the profits from each Collection necklace, directly supporting thyroid cancer patients with the cost of long term medical care.
In her spare time, Anne serves as treasurer for CancerCare’s Young Professionals Committee. The committee aims to raise funds and awareness for the organization.
